During the last two decades of climbing in Cochamó, climbers who opened routes have left their legacy in the valley, a handmade topo of their new route. The first topos, in the late 90's, could be found in a small roll in a jar at the base of the Trinidad. Today they no longer fit in the jar and you can print them out before you get to the valley. If you have opened a route and want to share it with the rest of the climbers, send your topo to escaladacochamo@gmail.com and we will publish it on the site.
The two maps below can help orient you to the location of walls, routes, trails and campgrounds. The first Google map shows a general idea of the main sectors (red). The second is an topographical OSM map and shows the wall / cliff features and their names if you zoom in on them.
Its order. Areas are listed below starting with La Junta (center) and the walls surrounding in a clockwise manner as seen from above. Click an area to see its topos.
If you save these topos to your phone, remember to bring a portable solar panel to charge your device since there is no place to charge in La Junta or upper valleys. If you choose to print, please recyble your topos by leaving them with someone from the Visitor Center at the trailhead.
A selection of topos can be found in a PVC tube in Trinidad and Anfiteatro. The tube labeled "Topos" can be found at the first bivy of Trinidad and another at the main bivy of Anfiteatro. These topos depend on the care and organization of each climber that uses them.
Topos are NOT kept at the Refugio Cochamó nor Camping La Junta.
