Wall Mapu 5.10c 300 m

& Awaf 5.9 300 m

In March, Maximo Fernandez (Chile), Lucas “Turco” Dahir (Argentina), and I finished a project we started a few years ago on the east face of Anfiteatro, beginning partway up the gully that separates Walwalun from Cerro Anfiteatro. The seven-pitch route mostly follows corners with difficulties to 5.10c (a number 5 cam is recommended for the final pitch), after which 300m of scrambling leads to the summit.

We called the route Wall Mapu after the Mapuche people who lived here before the Spanish invasion. With this name we hope to remind climbers that these ancestral lands are still threatened by mega-projects that do not respect the environment. We are very worried over the future of Cochamó, and are ready to defend this mythical valley of the south.
